Love of Cooking and Baking Inspired the Opening of Kirby’s
There’s nothing quite like the smile on someone’s face when they take their first bite of a cupcake from Kirby’s. For the mother/daughter team of Kirby and Lisa, those smiles have been repeated many times and are the result of a lifelong love of cooking and baking.
Their business began in November 2010 when Kirby’s Kupcakes opened in downtown Rogers. The ladies had bounced around the idea of opening a dessert shop for years, but the timing before had never been right.
Kirby worked for Walmart CMI, and Lisa was busy with her job as a massage therapist and raising kids. Eventually, the kids graduated from school and moved on, and Kirby decided to retire from Walmart.
Suddenly, the timing was better.
While they considered making it a pie shop, they landed instead on the idea of a cupcake shop. Their loyal cake-loving customers are forever thankful.
After securing a downtown location, Kirby’s Kupcakes was born. The ladies created a menu of “everyday favorites,” but over the years they’ve used their cooking skills to add specialty cupcakes like Butterfinger and German Chocolate. One of their creations, the Chazberry, is an everyday favorite and the shop’s best-selling cupcake.
The Chazberry is a chocolate cupcake with a special chocolate chip cheesecake center. Kirby created the special center, and Lisa created the frosting. She admits today that she wasn’t sure about the lacy, raspberry-flavored pink frosting, but Kirby declared it perfect, and a legendary cupcake was born.
In the years since they’ve been open, Kirby’s has earned praise from many of its customers for making the best cupcakes in Northwest Arkansas and for their friendly service.
Kirby has now retired from the day-to-day operation of the store, but Lisa continues the tradition they both started. Drop by and check out the menu items, and you might even discover something new she's whipped up.
